About Us

We Are Celltris

Better, lighter, cheaper: we're on a mission to reimagine cell design, getting you more from your technology.

Celltris was founded to plug the gap between lab and production line. We industrialise cell technology and get you to market. We focus our 2 decades of experience into transforming your ideas into the manufacturable, industrially relevant cell technology your customers need.

We're based in central Bristol in our 950 sqm prototyping facility.

We are supported by:

Team

Ian Hunt - Co-founder

Ian is a mechanical engineer with a Ph.D. in battery thermal management from Imperial College London.

He has spent his career working on battery development, starting with cell research at Dyson to pack development at McMurtry automotive. Prior to founding Celltris, he was Head of Cell Design at Britishvolt responsible for all aspects of cell design, linking materials, cell chemistry, mechanical design and engineering.

Sam Alexander - Co-founder

Sam is a chemist with a Ph.D. in materials chemistry from University College London.

He has spent over a decade working on the industrialisation of Lithium-ion cell technology. He worked initially on cathode material development and scale-up at Johnson Matthey. After which he moved to Dyson and focussed on the industrialisation of solid-state cells. Prior to founding Celltris, he built and ran cell design and development programmes at Britishvolt.

Hallam Davis - Senior Cell Design Engineer

Hallam joined us in August 2023 as a Senior Cell Design Engineer. He has a Ph.D. in solid-state electrolytes from the University of Glasgow. Prior to joining Celltris Hallam worked for AMTE Power up in Thurso, Scotland. Hallam works on cell design and testing.

Maxine Simcox - Senior Cell Design Engineer

Max is an engineer with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Brighton and a Masters degree from WMG, University of Warwick. Before joining Celltris, Max spent the previous years in the commercial electric vehicle sector with Arrival and Volta predominantly as a design engineer. Now, with plenty of start-up experience and as a BatteryMBA alumni, Max leads the engineering team innovating cell design.

Polly Gisham - Office Manager

Polly joined the team in December 2023 as our Office Manager. She brings a wealth of experience from various Executive Assistant and Office Manager roles in diverse industries, including creative sectors like Aardman Animations and, most recently, the University of Bristol. In these roles, she supported senior managers by handling daily tasks, allowing them to focus on running the business.
Polly's experience includes setting up policies and procedures, health and safety, diary management, national and international travel coordination, event management, and overseeing day-to-day operations.

Reuben Sykes - Cell Design Engineer

Reuben joined us in March 2024 as a mechanical design engineer. Reuben has a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Liverpool. He brings his very hands on approach to the team by leading prototyping and testing of mechanical cell components.
